Since I lived a life of pain and hurt caused by Domestic Violence and it’s displacement, I have a firsthand knowledge of living between two worlds, first as a Little girl growing up in a non-violent home as a child to getting Married in a Violent home and Environment, unfortunately for me at that time, I came from a Country where people do not get prosecuted in a domestic violence case or rather because diplomats have Immunity from laws all over the world [due to the Geneva Convention] they can never be prosecuted in their host country.
My experiences as a wife of a diplomat, who had all the affluence “Pomp and Pageantry” that comes with it ,was not something any woman will ever dream to be abused ,my peace compromised, or life for all these comforts …,because I have always wanted to remain a married Mother and not a single one, and for the sake of my children[I tried to stay married, but I almost lost my life] because I was raised by two parents as a child.
I have lived a displaced life caused by the fact that my abuser and husband was a diplomat and as such could not be persecuted nor I be given a free ride to experience freedom in America, so I had to struggle for years with my children to breathe again.
My situation as an abandoned, abused spouse in this country [USA] where you have to be legally allowed to live and work was not an easy one at all. While I endured hardship caused by displacement, I became depressed at times but I also had to seek God’s intervention to my plight, however it was not only my faith that pulled me through, rather with the help of my Family, [though far-away, by phone support] Community, Friends[ Angela Nawaz &Family, Lesley Stein, Udy Umeh, and numerous others] and Montgomery County Department of HHS[Vera Johnson &co],HOC staff,[Les Kaplan, Rose Mathews, Rosemary Lawson, Sylvia Mahon]my lawyers [Morris Deutsch, Carolyn Killea] I tried to become self -sufficient in a very tough situation due to immigration status and limitations.
It is time for women of all ethnic groups to come together as one voice to say “We Refuse to be Abused, Ignored, and Mistreated even discriminated against by some employers, as I had experienced all these because I was a victim/survivor of abuse.
This is the time for us (abused) to speak out, be safe and not sorry.
